I am calling today to urge Representative [Representative’s Last Name] to urge them to support or offer an amendment to House Bill 54 that excludes pet retailers and veterinarians from the proposed hemp retailer restrictions surrounding surveillance camera requirements and age-verification requirements for hemp-derived pet products.

My business serves pet owners, and the products in questions are non-intoxicating wellness supplements specifically designed for animals.

The current regulations proposed would force my small business to spend thousands of dollars on a security system we do not need. It unfairly penalizes businesses like mine that aim to help pets and pet-owners, while having little effect on smoke shops that already have cameras.

Hemp-derived pet products that meet the requirements of the 2018 Farm Bill are not the same as Delta-8 or other products intended for human consumption, yet this bill would prevent responsible, young adults, from buying a legal wellness product for their pets, as well as create an unnecessary burden on your constituents, and my staff.

House Bill 54, as written, will hurt responsible, local Utah businesses and the pet owners we serve. I am asking Representative [Representative’s Last Name] to please consider the unintended consequences and support an exemption for products intended solely for animal consumption.
